EC to sponsor 11 cultural projects in W Africa
At least 11 cultural projects across West Africa are to be funded by the European Commission at 2,269,554 euros (3.4 million U.S. dollars), the commission said in a statement reaching here on Tuesday.
The support is within the framework of the "Regional Fund for the Promotion of Cooperation and Cultural Exchanges in West Africa" project, the statement said.
The fund is granted within the overall framework of support to the integration process promoted by the West African Economic and Monetary Union and the Economic Community of West African States commissions, it added.
The 11 projects were selected from the 179 projects proposed by 13 countries of the 16 countries targeted in the region.
"The finance actions mainly relate to the access and participation of the largest number of West African citizens in cultural activities; the reinforcement, the valorization and the sharing of expertise in the region (artiste, technical and management skills); the development of creation with a special emphasis both on the revitalization of traditional techniques and knowledge (contemporary approach of the tradition) and the development of new forms of expression, particularly related to new technologies; and the development of the diversified and common heritage of the region," the statement said.
