Australian Ambassador in China Visited ECNU
Australian Ambassador in China Mr. Rui Jierui visited ECNU with the vice consul-general of Australia at Shanghai on December 10th. Chancellor Zhang Jishun met them at the VIP guest house on Minhang Campus. Many professors and leaders attended the meeting, including Dean of School of Foreign Languages Zhang Chunbai, Director of Australian Studies Chen Hong, deputy Director of Australian Studies Hou Minyue, and deputy Director of International Exchange Division Huang Zhihua.
During the meeting, Chancellor Zhang introduced our university in brief and pointed out the development of our Australian Study Centre in particular, hoping that we could further our cooperation with Australian Higher Education community, which would promote the academic progression to both parties. And we expressed that we would support the International Seminar on Sino-Australian Studies next year.
Ambassador Rui Jierui said that he had been long expected to visit the key university of China – East China Normal University. He gave highly praise to the achievements of our Australian Study Centre, wishing further our cooperation and friendship. He also expressed thanks for our hospitality.
After the meeting, accompanied by President Yu Lizhong, Ambassador Rui visited our School of Foreign Languages, giving a brilliant lecture to over 200 teachers and students there. After the lecture, he also answered many questions with great patience.
It is reported that Australian Seminar Series will be promoted by the Australian Embassy in China as an engagement of next year’s “Australian Year in China”. This time Ambassador Rui Jierui visited our university was to unveil the series of activities. And this action showed that Australian government recognized the importance of our university in the area of Australian studies.
