SJTU Undertakes one Major Project of the National Social Science Fund

On January 13, the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science announced the results of the National Social Science Fund Projects in 2009. The project with Professor Xie Yungeng from SJTU Institute of Arts and Humanities as the chief expert won a bid and has been established as 2009 major projects of National Social Science fund. The successful bidding of the project fulfilles the zero breakthrough of SJTU in major projects of the National Social Science Fund and marks the development of SJTU social science research into a new stage.

The funded project “A Study on Early Warning Indicator System for Network Opinion”is led by Professor Xie Yungeng from Institute of Arts and Humanities. Integrating the research resources of School of Information Security Engineering and other relevant colleges and departments, relying on the existing research base by long-term accumulation and carefully organizing and scientifically proving, his team passed the initial evaluation and reviewing and finally got their project approved. As the highest-level and the most influential scientific research project in philosophy and social sciences, the major project of the National Social Science Fund aims to research the major theoretical, strategic and practical issues concerning the overall development of the party’s and the people’s cause to serve the party and government decision-making, and therefore, it bears great theoretical value and practical significance in promoting China’s economic, political, cultural and social construction. The adopting of bidding for major projects aims to select strong teams to study on significant subjects and bring out the research in philosophy and social science which is representative of the national level, and has the great theoretical value and practical significance. In this bidding, there are 668 declarations for 65 tenders. SJTU has 11 subjects for declaration. After initial evaluation, among altogether 18 projects in Shanghai, 4 projects respectively led by Professor Ji Weidong from Koguan Law School, Professor Chen Xian, Professor Pan Yingli and Professor Yu Leng from Antai College of Economics & Management besides this project enters the meeting reviewing, which created the best record.
