Confucius Institute at Columbia University Established
RUC Vice President Prof. Chen Yulu met with Prof. Liu Lening, Director of Chinese Program at Columbia University, US, on Dec.14th, 2009.
Columbia University and Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) signed an agreement on the establishment of a Confucius Institute at Columbia University in November 2009. After negotiation, RUC agreed to be the Chinese partner of Columbia to jointly establish such a Confucius Institute which would be the 12th overseas Confucius Institute of Renmin University.
During the meeting, Prof. Chen Yulu said that RUC would try every effort to build the Confucius Institute at Columbia University to be a typical model of global excellent ones. He pointed out that the two universities should promote Chinese traditional culture and contemporary China based on this platform and could also introduce the foreign studies of ancient and contemporary China into China. Prof. Liu said that Columbia and Renmin had much in common in disciplinary advantages, and hoped to increase collaboration between the two universities in the future.
