SJTU Low-carbon Agricultural Research Center Unveils the Nameplate
SJTU Low-carbon Agricultural Research Center unveiled the nameplate in B418, New Administration Building on Minhang campus on the morning of March 23, 2010. SJTU. Lin Zhongqin, Vice President of SJTU and Li Nuyun, Deputy Director-General of the Forestation Department of State Forestry Bureau uncovered the plate. Peng Yinghong, executive vice-president of the Scientific Research Institute hosted the opening ceremony.
Lin Zhongqin said in his address that low-carbon economy was one of the measures that the Party Central Committee took to stick to the sustainable development strategy, and low-carbon economy and low-carbon life may touch upon all walks of life and are closely related to our life. SJTU is strong in the study and resources related to the research of carbon sink and carbon trading. Lin Zhongxin gave his expectations that the Low-carbon Agricultural Research Center be an advanced international platform for the theoretical study and technological development of low-carbon agriculture, and a consultative body of low-carbon agricultural development for governments and companies, so that it may provide new technology and ideas to the development of low-carbon agriculture in Shanghai and even throughout the country.
Lin Zhongqin and Li Nuyun unveiled the nameplate for the Low-carbon Agricultural Research Center attended by rapturous applaud. The center mainly studies the theory of carbon agriculture and the technology of operation, farming methods based on energy conservation, emission reduction, and carbon increasing, the ways to save energy and reduce emission in green houses, the theory of carbon forestry and the technology of operation, low-carbon planning, and the development strategy and policy mechanism of urban low-carbon agriculture.
Li Nuyun delivered an address on “Forestry’s Reply to Climate Change and the International Carbon Trading” to the SJTU staff and students. In her address she explained the trend of international carbon trade, forestry carbon increasing and carbon trade policies of China, and the development of carbon funds in China from the areas of the importance of forestry, international actions to deal with climate change, the essence of clean development mechanism, the establishment and operation of China Green Carbon Fund, and the forestry related issues in the international negotiation on climate change, etc.
Li Nuyun, who studies the theory of forestry carbon increasing and international carbon trading, the policy making, the management of carbon fund, and the national strategy to cope with climate change, is the guru of China’s forestry carbon increasing and international carbon trading and has participated in international negotiations about carbon increasing and carbon trading many times as a representative of China.
Cai Youming, deputy director of the Municipal Bureau of Greenery and Cityscape of Shanghai, expressed his congratulations on the establishment of the center.
Prof. Zhou Pei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology, delivered an address on “the Strategy of Innovation of Low-Carbon Agricultural Sciences” and attended a symposium with Li Nuyun and related leaders of the Municipal Bureau of Greenery and Cityscape of Shanghai in the afternoon.
