On March 23, 2010, Professor Xu Fei, the deputy secretary of the university’s party committee, led a delegation to visit National Central University. Entrusted with this task by President Zhang Jie, Xu Fei attended the ceremony as the representative of SJTU to sign the Student Exchange Agreement and the Academic Exchange Agreement with Liu Zhenrong, Vice President of National Central University.

National Central University is the sixth Taiwanese university that has signed formal agreements with SJTU besides National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University and National Chengchi University. Both parties agree to maintain a stable development in academic resource sharing, scholars exchange, and student exchange activities. This agreement marks a new stage of communication between SJTU and universities in Taiwan.

Professor Xu Fei addressed to the ceremony: “The pine, straight and evergreen, is the symbol of Central University. It reflects the spirit of Central University: fortitude, honesty, and simplicity. What students in Central University pursue is not only solid scientific literacy but also pine-like determined personalities, which is quite admirable. Today’s ceremony betters the communication between the two universities on the basis of the previous established achievements in sharing and exchanging. We truly appreciate your students’ outstanding performance in the interaction activities between the two universities in recent years. Taking this opportunity, we would like to invite teachers and students from your university to visit the 2010 Shanghai Expo”.

The leaders that attended the signing ceremony include Professor Xu Guokai, chief of all the departments of National Central University and head of the R&D department, Professor Lin Zongtai, head of the international department, Professor Zheng Guoxing, director of Yucheng Center, Professor Li Guanghua, the dean of studies, Profess Ni Jianbai from the Department of Physics and Professor Fei Dingguo from the Department of Chemistry, etc.

After the ceremony, both parties had further discussion with each other on the issues about nurturing innovative talents and helping students start their own business. The business teams from our university including Zhilan Carbon Tech Company presented their excellent business plans to the teachers and students from National Central University. Wang Weiming, the secretary of Communist Youth League of SJTU and three student business teams participated in these activities.
