Shanghai International Shipping Forum 2010 Was Grandly Held
On March 25, “Shanghai International Shipping Forum 2010” organized by Ministry of Transport of People’s Republic of China and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, opened in Hyatt on the Bund Shanghai. As one of the operators, SJTU has the secretary Ma Dexiu attend the opening ceremony of the forum and the unveil ceremony of “Shanghai International Shipping Information Center”. Zheng Chengliang, Vice President of SJTU, hosted the seminar on “Shipping Market” in the afternoon.
Li Shenglin, Party Secretary and Minister of Ministry of Transport of PRC, Han Zheng, Vice-secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mayor, Xu Xianping, Vice-Chairman of the NDRC and Robert Lorenz-Meyer, Chairman of the Baltic and International Maritime Council, Jeremy Penn, CEO of the Baltic Exchange, Qian Yongchang, Chairman of China Transportation Association, Xu Lejiang, President and Chairman of Baosteel Group, Dong Jiancheng, Chairman of the Oriental Overseas as well as other renown insiders attended the forum and gave keynote presentations.
Since the very beginning of establishment, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has treated shipping management as an important field in teaching and researching. In 1909, Tang Wenzhi, President of SJTU at that time established a course in shipping (for maritime college), which was the pioneer in China’s modern education in maritime. In 1943, SJTU set up the Department of Shipbuilding which ahs trained thousands of top talents for China’s shipbuilding industry. Entering a new development period, SJTU assumed the mission of responding to the national development strategies and serving local economy, and actively participated in the building of Shanghai Shipping Center. In 2009, SJTU organized the International Shipping Forum; in January 2010, it released the CCIEE-Shanghai Shipping Index (SSI) in the first CCTV Annual Meeting of China’s Economy, which exerted a wide-ranging social impact. In addition, SJTU also undertook the research on integrated transport strategy of Shanghai International Shipping Center, research on Waigaoqiao Bond and logistics policies, and the detailed regulatory plan of Tongsheng International Logistic Garden, Shanghai International Shipping Center, research on the security technology for crude oil import and feasibility of Guangzhou Bonded Zone, and the policy research to speed up the international ships returning to China’s registry.
