The Third Summit for Presidents of Famous Universities and Middle Schools Opens

Transtlate The Third Summit for Presidents of Famous Universities and Middle Schools, co-organized by China Education Press Agency, China Education Television and Renmin University of China, was held in RUC on April 26th, 2010. The theme of this meeting was “Selection and Cultivation of Innovative Talents” with the topics of students’ innovation and cultivation of innovative talents according to students’ aptitude. Besides, the meeting also put forward a proposal of interaction between universities and middle schools in regard to the cultivation of talents.
RUC President Ji Baocheng and Chairman of the University Council Cheng Tianquan delivered their addresses on the opening ceremony. Representatives from over ten universities, middle schools, research institutes and media, including the High School Affiliated to RUC and China Education Television, attended the meeting.
On the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhang Daliang, Director-General of Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of cultivating talents. He said that it’s very important to do the detailed work step by step while holding a long-term perspective and combine the school education with social and family education so as to build a good environment for the growth of innovative talents.
Prof. Cheng Tianquan, Chairman of the RUC Council, hoped the meeting could help strengthen communication between the education circle and the other circles of the society and become an active driving force to the development of universities and the implementation of the strategy of national rejuvenation through science and education.
RUC President Ji Baocheng made an address entitled “Understanding the Selection and Cultivation of Innovative Talents with a Broader View”. He showed the great concern with the reform of college entrance examination (GaoKao) in China and advised people to think more about the formation of innovative personality and culture.
President of Zhejiang University Yang Wei, President of Beijing Normal University Zhong Binglin and presidents of other schools also made their speeches respectively.
The meeting held three round-table discussion forums in the same afternoon. RUC Vice-President Yang Huilin read the “RUC Declaration” on the closing ceremony.
