Shanghai Jiao Tong University was honored as one of “50 Most Experienced Colleges in Graduate Employment” at the 2009 National Exchange of Experience in Graduates Employment held by the Ministry of Education on April 26, another honor after it had been honored as “National Advanced Employment Unit” in 2004 and “National Advanced College in Graduate Employment” in 2009. SJTU Assistant President Yan Liangyu and Deputy Director of the Employment Center Ma Jian presented the exchange and received the prize on behalf of SJTU.

The National Center of Consultation and Employment for College Students, and some departments of the Ministry of Education summarized the employment of 2009 graduates from September 2009 according to the “Notice of the Ministry of Education about the Summerization of College Graduates” (MoE, [2009] 23). Leading Party Group member of the Ministry of Education, Assistant Minister Lin Huiqing attended the meeting, affirming the efforts colleges had made to promote employment, and encouraging more colleges to learn from the listed 50 colleges in graduate employment with innovation and open a new page on employment.

The summarization was aimed to improve the employment of colleges, and to promote the revolution of personnel training oriented by employment and social requirements. Related departments of the Ministry of Education took the leadership of the summarization, and some experts from relevant ministries and commissions, provincial administrative departments for education, colleges and universities and research institutes formed the expert group. The summarization and promotion consisted of five steps, namely declaration and recommendation, original selection by the expert group, social surveys, field research, and publication and promotion. It was characterized by the combination of recommendation and self recommendation, of consultation of experts and evaluation of the society, of uniform requirements and guidance to different types of areas, and meanwhile it emphasized revolution and features, establishing an indicator system basically. Besides, it invited professional investigation institute to help the social survey, ensuring the smooth, fair and orderly progress of each stage.

The employment of SJTU has always been oriented by national strategic requirements, and it aims to cultivate great scholars, moguls, and politicians. Therefore, it reforms the talent training mode and carries out the project of employment guidance for graduates, building a guide system for career development of students and encouraging entrepreneurship and overseas employment.The employment-related activities in SJTU, such as “Three Senses” and “Tracking Graduates”, have been highly praised by the Ministry of Education and promoted nationwide. With the care and guide of the Ministry of Education, SJTU will further the employment of graduates in a more positive and careful attitude, thus contributing to developing SJTU into a world class university.
