On April 25^th, 2010, the SJTU Alumni Association in Hubei was set up in the city of Wuhan. Graduated in 1949, Huang Xuhua, Academician of the CAE, renowned as the “Father of Chinese Submarine”, was elected the honorary president. Graduated in 1953, Zhao Zisen, Academician of the CAE, was elected president of the association. About 200 people attended the inaugural meeting, including Chen Gang, Vice-president of SJTU, Ma Lei, Director General of the alumni association, and schoolmates in Hubei.

There are many outstanding schoolmates of SJTU in Hubei, like prestigious scientists, senior executives of national large-scale enterprises, and entrepreneurs of small and mid-sized firms. They are always caring about the development of the Alma Mater and eager for a communication platform in Hubei which can promote mutual support and development. The establishment of the alumni association not only makes their wish come true but also epitomizes their strong cohesiveness.

In the inaugural meeting, Senior Zhao Zisen addressed that as an old schoolmate, he had witnessed SJTU’s development in the recent 50 years. As the first president of the alumni association, he felt a sense of great honor and grave responsibility. He hoped schoolmates could always remember the school motto–“Remember the Source of Your Drink, Love Your Country and University” and make more contribution to SJTU, Hubei and China. Now the central government is implementing major strategies including “Rising of Central China”, “Two Types of Social Construction”, and “Independent Innovation”, etc. And the alumni in Hubei are the new and powerful dynamos of Hubei’s economic development. Supported by SJTU’s resource advantage, the alumni can publicize the Alma Mater’s boom and success, reinforce its influence in the society, and promote resource-sharing and mutual development among alumni through various academic exchange and reunion activities to make a better future.

On behalf of Secretary Ma Dexiu, President Zhang Jie, all the faculty staff and medical personnel, Vice-president Chen Gang addressed cordial greetings to the alumni of SJTU in Hubei, congratulating the founding of the Alumni Association of SJTU in Hubei, thanking their constant care for and support to SJTU’s development. He said he would like to congratulate those who are already successful, encourage those who are struggling to be successful, and thank those who are quietly making contributions to the country and the society. SJTU has made great achievements in the past, is moving towards a world-class university today, and will attain greater accomplishment in the future. Wish every alumni health, happiness and prosperity!
