BFSU Hold Chinese Singing Contest for Foreigner Students
The BFSU School of Chinese Culture and Literature (SCL) turned out to be a hive of activity on June 8 when a contest was held for singing of Chinese songs by foreign students.
More than 100 students from the SCL Chinese Language Training Center participated in the contest, the first of its kind on the BFSU campus. With a superb fluency and wit in speaking Chinese, the four hosts, all clad in China’s traditional costumes, took the referees and audience by surprise.
The contest featured performances of three categories: solo, dual, and chorus. And the songs sung for the contest ranged from some of the latest pop hits to songs of the 1980s, from Chinese ethnic songs to Bel canto songs. Contestants displayed their talent also in dancing, poetry recitation and improvisations.
Applause and cheers resonated throughout the contest that continued for three hours. Class B3 won the chorus singing, two ROK (Republic of Korea) students won the first place for dual, and a Japanese student grab the No.1 for solo by singing Ju Hua Tai, a masterpiece of Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou and now a latest pop hit on the Chinese mainland.
