Working in Pairs to Study Chinese Successfully Held by Confucius Institute of UCC
On October 19th, A Language Paring Party was successfully held in the Staff Restaurant on 5 to 7pm local time by the Confucius Institute of UCC, Ireland. More than 100 people attended this event.
Confucius Institute staff arrived earlier to decorate the venue with paintings, calligraphies, Chinese lanterns and knots, which made the room cozy and full of oriental charm. Irish teachers and students had a cordial conversation with Chinese oversea students on topics varied from personal hobbies to culture differences. Most of the Irish students have successfully paired with the Chinese volunteers based on their personality, schedules, hobbies, and language skills.
A Chinese traditional musical performance was also given to make the event more enjoyable. In the meantime, Irish students’ works of paper cutting, painting and calligraphy were also exhibited in the venue, which aroused great interest in the traditional Chinese arts among the participants. In an atmosphere brimming with happiness, Irish students were encouraged to open an account on on-line Confucius Institute and they were awarded a prize for doing that.
This event lasted for over 2 hours and was successfully concluded accompanied by melodious sounds of Erhu and Dulcimer. “It’s cool and meaningful, I hope such kind of Paring party can be organized many more times”, said Lin Danni (Daniel Noel Cummins), from Grade 1 of college of commerce in an exciting manner.
Paring party, which is held two or three times every year, is a traditional event of UCC Confucius Institute. It has been serving as a popular platform for Irish and Chinese students to learn both languages and cultures.
