The Chinese Experience Training Camp Program Held in Korea

On October24, 2011, the second phase of Chinese experience training camp program was held in Paju English Village, Gyeonggi, Korea, where the students spent a week-long Chinese experience training life.

The Chinese experience training camp program, held for the second time, was cooperated by Confucius Institute at Daejin University and Paju English Village. Unlike the first time, the students’ Chinese proficiency has been raised considerably after several months of studying. In order to make this Chinese experience training camp program successful, teachers in Confucius Institute at Daejin University had a discussion in details on textbook selection, teaching content arrangement, curriculum plan and result evaluation a month in advance, and at last made a comprehensive training scheme. In view of the general recognition and praise on the previous teaching material the Great Wall Chinese, this time we still chose it as the main teaching material, from which two units were taken as the teaching content.

At10:00am, on October24, our Chinese teachers greeted their students expectantly in Paju English Village. Both teachers and students felt especially drawn to each other when they met again after a few months of separation. At1:00pm, the wonderful Chinese training activity opened after a brief but passionate welcome ceremony.

Compared with the last Chinese training program, this time it provided students with more new cultural experience on the premise of effective teaching, aiming to make students available to further experience the charm of Chinese culture. The scene of practicing shadowing box under the instruction of Chinese volunteer teachers was striking, as seventy-five foreign students carried forward the cohesion of Chinese culture. Jin Jiangxi, the dean of Confucius Institute at Daejin University, told stories about four beauties in ancient China vividly, outlining a stunning attractive classical Chinese beauty in every student’s heart. In dumpling-making class, students tried rolling out dough, making and boiling dumpling cheerily. It was really a best reward for teachers to see the students enjoying the delicious dumplings with great satisfaction.

The Chinese training camp program achieved a complete success with the joint efforts of both sides. From the very beginning of this program, the Paju English Village leaders visited classes regularly and made an investigation of students’ course evaluation, as a result they were quite satisfied with the curriculum arrangement, teaching content and teachers’ performance. Meanwhile the teachers tried their best to develop a set of scientific, concise standards of student performance evaluation, and recorded each student’s performance in the personal files, which won a favor among leaders and students. Although the final test included only two units of teaching content, it was regarded as a perfect test paper with a combination of scientificity, innovation, creation and degree of differentiate.

At parting, all students appreciated the teachers for their hard work, and the teachers were greatly moved and sentimental but with more expectation. As they believed the students’ Chinese proficiency would be on a higher level, and the students would have a better command of Chinese language and a better understanding of Chinese culture when they meet next time.
