Calday Grange Grammar School Students’ Chinese New Year Tour to Liverpool China Town

On Sunday February 6, 2011, nearly thirty students and teachers from Calday Grange Grammar School, SSAT North West Confucius Classroom, participated in the annual Chinese New Year celebration in Liverpool Chinatown, one of the oldest Chinese communities in Britain where the Chinese culture is inherited and promoted from generation to generation. The Chinese community in Liverpool holds Chinese New Year celebration activities every year in front of the Chinese Archway, which symbolizes the friendship and strong link between Liverpool and its sister city Shanghai.

Confucius Classroom in Calday Grange Grammar School organizes an annual cultural trip for students from Year 8 to Six Form to experience the Chinese New Year celebration and the students enjoy the rich cultural activities such as Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, firecrackers as well as Tai Chi Fan and Sword, traditional Chinese music and Chinese food. They love this event and through this experience they have gained a better understanding of Chinese culture and people.

Ben Ezard, one of the students who participated in the event today, loves learning Chinese and it is the third time he joined in this Chinatown trip. He is very enthusiastic in learning Chinese and has participated in almost every Chinese related activity at school.
