Splendid Chinese Show, Amazing Chinese Culture

A Chinese show sponsored by Confucius Institute at University of Antananarivo approached ACEEM University in Malagasy capital Antananarivo on May 18, 2011. The event brought surprising cultural experience to local students and teachers.

The event consists of both Chinese cultural show and interactive games. Accompanied by a Chinese folk song, a group of students presented a dance in Tibetan costumes as the prologue of the event. Chinese cultural play Shaolin Temple brought the event to its climax, the audience cheered and clapped. The student-and-teacher joint show of Taijiquan was followed by bursts of applause. The chopsticks skill match proceeded in a tense but enthusiastic atmosphere, providing an opportunity for the audience to participate in the event. The body language performance by Chinese teacher volunteers empathized the whole audience for its perfect expression. Students of Confucius Institute presented chorus of folk Chinese song and popular antiphonal singing as well. The almost-perfect singing astonished local students and strengthened their conviction in Chinese language acquisition.

In the grip of passion, the President of ACEEM made an impromptu speech at the end of the event. “Chinese culture is broad and profound, work hard and command Chinese language”, he encouraged the students.

Established in 1986, ACEEM is the first Malagasy university which designates Mandarin as a required course for all students. During this academic year, 466 students in 13 groups are studying Chinese. (by Li Haijun, CIUA)
