Ataturk High School in Ankara Holding the Chinese Cultural Festival
On May 24, 2011,Ataturk High School in Ankara, one of the Chinese teaching schools of Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University, successfully held the 2nd Chinese Cultural Festival.
Xiao Junzheng, the counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey, Wang Shanping, the director of Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University, some teachers and students from the Chinese department of Ankara University, and the teachers and students as well as some representatives of parents from Ataturk High School, all together 900 members attended the Chinese Cultural Festival opening ceremony.
Before the ceremony, all the participants stood for the National Anthem of the People’s Republic of China and the National Anthem of the Republic of Turkey.
The principal of Ataturk High School in Ankara, Mr. Faruk Pilatin, and the counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey, Xiao Junzheng addressed to the audience respectively.
Compared with that of last year, this year’s Cultural Festival had more participants. The students from the Chinese classes of Ataturk High School were better prepared and more active; and the teachers also took an active part in it, even playing roles in the programs.
Guitar accompanied small chorus of boys and girls "Girl Over There, Look Over Here", beautiful ribbon dance, comedy "Effendi" and other programs of the show, won waves of applause and cheers from the audience.
The drama Seven Fairies, from the Chinese ancient myth, was directed by the students of the Chinese course. It was not only moving but also concentrated with the Chinese elements, including the traditional and modern culture, such as Chinese costume, flowery umbrella, Chinese folk dance, Tai Chi Fan, Kongfu, even the nunchaku of Jay Chou, a Chinese Singer.
All the audiences gave highly praise to the innovative design and excellent performance.
After the performance, the Chinese Embassy counselor, Xiao Junzheng said excitedly, "The Chinese Culture Festival is held in secondary schools, and the students’ performance is so wonderful. At the same time, the school leaders are attaching so great importance to it, and the festival is attracting so large an audience. All of these surprise me very much! "He stated that this year is the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey, and also the 125th anniversary of establishment of Ataturk High School. Therefore, this event is very significant.
Ataturk High School in Ankara, one of the most famous council schools in Turkey, has set up the Chinese course for five years. And every year, there are 90 students to study Chinese. Although short of Chinese language teachers, the Confucius Institute at the Middle East Technical University has taken the responsibility of Chinese language and culture teaching for this school for two successive years, during which, the teachers there have taken a long way to teach the students, overcoming the difficulty of inconvenience of transportation.
