Joint-Established Confucius Institute Inaugurated in Moldova

The Confucius Institute joint-established by NWNU and Liberal International University of Moldova (LIUM) was inaugurated formally in Chisinau, capital of Moldova on September 29. It is the first Confucius Institute in Moldova. Ang Nite • Boujol, Moldovan Minister of Education, Mikhail • Askey, Moldova parliament member, Andre • Galben, president of LIUM, Shi Longzhuang, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Embassy in Moldova, and Liu Zhongkui, vice president of NWNU, attended and addressed the ceremony. 

Moldovan Minister of Education Boujol said in his speech that the formal establishment of the Confucius Institute in Moldova would provide an important platform for Moldovan people to understand Chinese ancient civilization and learn Chinese language. It would enhance mutual friendship between Moldova and China as well. He hoped that the graduates of the Confucius Institute would make contributions to the further development of bilateral friendship.

Shi Longzhuang stressed in his speech that to promote Sino-Moldova relationship, both governments have attached great importance to cultural exchanges and cooperation, which is also the sincere desire of the two peoples. The establishment of Confucius Institute in Moldova meets the common interests of both sides. It not only meets the needs of the Moldovan people to learn Chinese, but also promotes bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation, and enhances mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. 

Liu Zhongkui briefly introduced NWNU, and said that the Confucius Institute would serve as a bridge of cultural exchange between China and Moldova. It would help Moldovan people to learn Chinese language and understand Chinese culture. He believes that through the joint efforts of both universities, the Confucius Institute will be established as a base for Moldova and the surrounding areas to learn and spread Chinese culture, and for both sides to promote mutual friendship. 

After the ceremony, the guests visited Chinese pictures and books exhibition, and appreciated Chinese dances and martial arts performed by teachers and students from NWNU. 

It is learned that the NWNU delegation to Moldova headed by Vice President Liu Zhongkui also participated in the artistic performances for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China by Chinese Embassy in Moldova, and for the celebration of the 63 anniversary of the founding of Moldova State University during their stay in Moldova.
