GDUFS Places in Top Eight in SIFE World Cup
Good news from Berlin, as SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) GDUFS successfully placed in the SIFE World Cup 2009 top eight list; the best result in SIFE GDUFS history. The competition took place from Oct 4th to the 7th, as the top 42 SIFE teams from all over the world gathered in Berlin, Germany to compete in SIFE World Cup 2009. The GDUFS SIFE team, led by instructor Lin Hongwei, deeply impressed the audience with their excellent presentation, professional analysis and quick reasoning skills.
Before the competition, there was a section called Culture Fair in which the players displayed their own countries' culture and unique characteristics. The GDUFS SIFE team wonderfully presented Chinese traditional costume, delicate folk crafts and Chinese calligraphy.
In the opening round competition, GDUFS SIFE team met opponents from Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Russia and Tadzhikistan. With excellent preparation and professional performance, GDUFS SIFE team stood out and entered the semi-final round in which they would compete with powerful SIFE teams from South Africa, Thailand and the host country, Germany. During the tough semi-final round, with calmness and confidence, SIFE GDUFS finally took second place in the league just after Germany, successfully securing their place in the top eight.
Though they did not enter the final round, they didn't treat it as a failure. As a member of the team said, "I think it's more of an opportunity for exchanging ideas and experience with SIFE members around the world than a competition. I believe we share the same understanding about SIFE--a head for business, a heart for the world." After the competition, SIFE teams from other countries expressed their congratulations and best wishes to SIFE GDUFS.
Coming off a great success, GDUFS SIFE team members expressed their gratitude to GDUFS and GDUFS Alumni Associations of Germany and France for their support and assistance. During their stay in Berlin, they were warmly welcomed by former students of GDUFS who helped the team members with their day to day life. They also specially arranged a tour around Berlin for the team.
