President Wang Meets with Delegation from Widener University, U.S.A

President Wang Chongju and Vice-president Gou Chaoli met with Dr.James Harris III, President of Widener University, U.S.A. and other members of the delegation on 12th Nov. Presented were Liu Qin, Director of the President's Office; Han Yan, Director of the International Cooperation & Exchange Office, Xu Xian, Dean of the School of Politics & Social Development, Bai Qun, Dean of the International Business School.

President Wang firstly extended the warmest welcome to the delegation and expressed his sincere thanks for their substantial support for the collaboration between CTBU and Widener. President James Harris III said it was with great pleasure to witness the abundant accomplishment of both sides achieved during the past three years. Both sides expressed their expectation for further collaboration which could be expanded to MBA,clinical psychology and other fields. After the meeting, the leaders of both sides planted the friendship tree, symbolizing the everlasting friendship.

 At 4 p.m., Dr. James Harris III gave a lecture entitled "Universities' Responsibility in the International Personnel Training" to CTBU students. Zhao Weiliang, Deputy Director of Chongqing Education Commission, Hu Bin, Deputy Inspector of CEC and Li Shiyu, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation & Exchange Office of CEC attended the lecture. Dr. James Harris III gave a brief review of the history of Widener University and introduced its contribution to community development. He pointed out that universities should strive for excellence in scientific research, teaching and student services, improve students' global awareness, cultivate their leadership so that they can play a positive role in solving emergencies and make their due contribution to community development. The speech was greatly received by the audience.

 Widener University is the sister university of CTBU in America. Fruitful cooperations have been carried out in students' exchange, faculty exchange and joint research since the establishment of cooperative relationship in 2006. One joint-research project in the field of social work was funded by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. A one-week intensive training class on Post-disaster Reconstruction--Psychological Counselling of Crisis Intervention was successfully held with joint effort of CTBU, Widener and East China Normal University. The visit of the Widener delegation symbolizes a new start of the collaboration of the two universities in the future..
