GDUFS Wins Four Awards at the 2009 CNMUN

November 14th -The GDUFS delegation of Model United Nations (MUN) won four awards in the 2009 China National Model United Nations (CNMUN). Led by Su Gaoyang, the GDUFS delegation of MUN was awarded the Best Position Paper Award and the Outstanding Delegation Award. Chen Zimin, a postgraduate student from the School of Interpreting and Translation, brought home the Best Delegate Award for his outstanding performance. As well, Su Gaoyang was granted the Faculty Advisor Award.

The activity of Model United Nations started in Harvard University in the 1950s. Participating delegates, simulating various countries' diplomats, discuss current international topical issues in English according to the United Nations rules of procedure. After the discussion section, draft resolutions are formed and put to vote.

The China National Model United Nations was founded in 2003 and has been hosted by a Chinese university every November. The 2009 CNMUN, hosted by United Nations Association of China, was held at Beijing Normal University, attracting more than 250 excellent students from China and Australia. This year’s topics were:  Universality and Particularity of Human Rights and Children's Right to Education.

Before this year's CNMUN, the GDUFS delegation spared no effort in preparation--from collecting materials and composing a documentary of standpoints to recomposing lectures and increasing their diplomatic knowledge. In addition, participating students were instructed by Zhong Weihe--Vice President of GDUFS, Professor Tang Xiaosong from the School of Legal Studies and the students of the 2008 GDUFS delegation of CNMUN.
