Indonesian Gadjah Mada University Visits GDUFS
November 29th - Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, Dean of Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, visited GDUFS on November 26th and was warmly welcomed by Vice President Zhong Weihe. Together, they discussed future cooperation in Confucius Institutes and other co-founded programs. Also in attendance was the Director of the International Office, Liang Jie, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures, Quan Yonggen and the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, Chen Yanhui.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Zhong Weihe briefly introduced GDUFS to Dr. Ida. In his speech, he said, “GDUFS is the main Indonesian-teaching school in South China with a history of over 30 years focused on Indonesian teaching, which provides advantageous opportunities for cooperation of the two universities. In addition, the success of other three GDUFS' Confucius Institutes in Japan, Russia and Peru offers precious experience.Zhong emphasized that Dr. Ida's visit had created a closer relation between the two universities. He also presented the pertinent information of the Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in GDUFS and suggested an exchange program of Indonesian students.
Dr. Ida expressed her appreciation towards the friendship between the two universities which was originally established in 2003 and stated that she came to reinforce cooperation in more aspects. In the meantime, she wished GDUFS could send some Chinese teachers to Gadjah Mada University because the university is currently in urgent need of Chinese teachers. Ranked first in Indonesian universities, Gadjah Mada University has realized the importance of Chinese language teaching in order to keep up with the current world trend. As well, the Indonesian government has been gradually increasing education expenditure for Chinese teachers and improving teaching conditions.
After the meeting, Dr. Ida also discussed future cooperation with the Institute of Education for International Students, the MBA Education Center and many other faculties. She said she would bring back this information to Gadjah Mada University, hoping to push forward further cooperation.
