Bronze Statue of Sheng Xuanhuai, SJTU Founder Was Set up on Minhang Campus
Holding that “to build a strong nation, we should give priority to the cultivation of talents; while to cultivate talents, we must first establish schools”, Mr. Sheng Xuanhuai founded the Nan Yang Public School, the predecessor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 114 years ago. With reverence the SJTUers set up the bronze statue of Mr. Sheng Xuanhuai on Minhang campus on April 10 as a special way to celebrate its 114th anniversary. The unveiling ceremony took place in front of the screen wall of the eastern entrance, SJTU Minhang campus.
In the warmth of the April sunlight, the fragrance of flowers and the rapturous applause, representatives of the SHENGs, Ms. Sheng Peng Juying and Mr. Sheng Yufeng, as well as Secretary of the SJTU Party Committee Ma Dexiu and President Zhang Jie unveiled the statue together. Deputy Secretary of the SJTU Party Committee Prof. Xu Fei presided over the ceremony.
