Professors of SJTU Joined the Department of Mathematics
Since January 2010, Professor Cai Shenou and Professor Wang Lihe who were engaged as chair professor of ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversitylast year, have officially began to work in Department of Mathematics, ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity. Both Professor Cai Shenou and Professor Wang Lihe are internationally renowned mathematicians. Their arrival was an important progress made by Department of Mathematics with the motivation and help of the university leaders and to aim at the international forefront and build an international high-end talent team. As the leading-class talents, they will greatly contribute to the research work of Department of Mathematics in the relevant fields, and enhance the international impact and core competitiveness of Department of Mathematics in the international mathematics community.
Cai Shenou got his bachelor degree from Department of Physics at PekingUniversityin 1984. In 1994, he received his Ph.D. from NorthwesternUniversityin the United States. Before working at ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity, he worked in the world famous Courant Institute of Mathematics at New YorkUniversityas full professor. His research involves the front subjects in the fields of applied mathematics, physics, biology, and neuroscience. In 2001, he once obtained the Sloan Research Fellowship awarded by the United Statesto the tremendous potential young professors, and in 2009 he was engaged as Chair Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program, Ministry of Education. Wang Lihe got his bachelor degree from Department of Mathematics, PekingUniversityin 1983. In 1989, he received his Ph.D. from Courant Institute of Mathematics at New YorkUniversity. He once was the assistant professor at Department of Mathematics, PrincetonUniversity, and associate professor (tenured) at Universityof California Los Angeles(UCLA), and full professor at the Universityof Iowabefore working at SJTU. Professor Wang has made a series of internationally influential pioneering work in basic theory and application of partial differential equations, differential geometry, harmonic analysis and others. He is the internationally recognized experts in the study of partial differential equations. In 1994, he received the Sloan Research Fellowship of the United Statesand in 2002 he was engaged as Chair Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program, Ministry of Education.
